When we have a pest problem, pest control can be the first people we contact but in fact, the last person we want to see in our home or business.
I was recently in my local supermarket in my pest control uniform. I went past a couple who I had done work for earlier this year. The eye contact and gentle nod that acknowledged for us both that we knew each other but that actually the couple didn't want to publicize this as there remains a stigma around having to have pest control services into your home or business.
People feel they are dirty but in fact pests, the majority of the time are not dependent on cleanliness alone. I am asked if I have the company name on my van as people don’t want the neighbours to see the van parked at their home or business. Hence I chose when I started my business to have removable signage for that very reason.
We have had a pest problem in the past. We too worried that people would pass opinion as to our home and its cleanliness. Nothing could be further from the truth ( My wife is obsessive with cleaning!) To pests, it doesn’t matter if it’s the Hilton or a hovel it can be home.
After our personal experience, we have a really good understanding of the emotional effect of having a pest problem. We base our work around not just eradicating the problem but looking at why the problem occurred in the first place. We work towards stopping the problem in the future.
So, whenever I meet an old customer, I am happy to be discreet ( I understand honestly if you ignore me!) but equally as happy to stop and chat.
