Wasp problem in your home or business? Call the Pest Professionals
Pest Doctor North West can control and eliminate wasps, or a wasp nest problem in domestic or commercial environments
Wasps can be a pest problem during summer when the weather is warmer and they're more active. Wasp Queens hibernate during winter, emerging in spring to begin building a nest. In autumn, as food becomes scarce within the nest, wasps can by on the hunt for other food sources - like your pint in the beer garden or a soft drink.
Wasps are seasonal pest insects. Queen Wasps can emerge as early as March, though this can be very weather dependant. In June we see a much more pronounced level of activity as the nest grows. Wasps can stay active all through the summer months with late summer seeing the Queen laying new ‘Queen’ eggs. These, when fully developed, will fly the nest and hibernate over Winter until spring when the cycle starts again. Meantime, the ‘old’ Queen once she has ‘fulfilled her duties’ will die along with the nest. Which can be late autumn.
Wasps are one of the most common pests to be seen bothering the Warrington area through the long summer days. They can settle on your property in a wide variety of either cramped or open spaces, both inside and outside.
Wasps come in many diverse types – nesting under eaves, in attics, in retaining walls and even in the ground. Wasp colonies can become large with time and pose a threat to your property and family.
For instance, if wasps invade your attic, they might go through the drywall and eventually swarm your home. And that’s where we come in – to ensure a swift treatment and extermination of the wasps, and to protect both your family and home from future invasions.
Most wasp species are social and live in colonies, in contrast to the solitary ones. With the social category, the colony has female workers that do everything around the nest. They are aggressive and will sting anyone who threatens their nest. But unlike bees, wasps can sting many times in a row. So, be careful.
It is imperative that you deal with these insects with a sense of haste. Leaving a nest for too long before you deal with it can have disastrous consequences, including structural damage to your property and increased risk of stings.
Checking for wasps
A useful check to carry out in summer is to wait for a hot, sunny day in mid-July and walk all around your house looking up and down, in air-bricks and chimneys etc and if you have a wasp’s nest you will clearly see wasps coming and going at an alarming rate. Ring us then before the queens emerge in mid-September and you will break the breeding cycle.
Licensed Wasp Treatment and Extermination
The most common sign of wasp presence in and around your property is the wasp nest. Remove the nest – no more stinging insects. But dealing with wasps is not that easy, can be immensely frustrating and sometimes even scary. No matter how eager you are to get rid of the wasp invaders, you must never attempt to solve this problem on your own, unless of course you have the proper training and equipment.
Pest Doctor North West can control a wasp pest problem quickly and effectively. Wasp nest removal can be dangerous without the right equipment and training. The Pest Doctor has the knowledge to treat, control and remove wasps nests as necessary. We cover all postcodes in and around Warrington. Don't get stung!

Wasp prevention in your home or business
Hints and tips when dealing with wasps
- Wasps can be attracted to food smells, so ensure bin lids are closed tight
- Where possible, keep windows and doors closed or use fly screens and fly curtains across doors and windows
- Check for nests. It is easier to spot a Wasp nest on a fine dry day. Wasps tend to be more active in these conditions
- If you spot a Wasp nest, cordon off the area, keep your distance and keep children, staff and pets away from the area
- Please don’t be a DIY hero – call the Pest Professionals. Wasps can be very aggressive and emit a ‘sting’ pheromone. Once you have been stung, this pheromone can attract other Wasps resulting in a multiple sting attack.
How to Get Rid of Wasps
Although there are many species of wasps in the world only three species trouble us as pests in North West Britain, our two traditional species the Common Wasps (Vespula vulgaris), the German Wasp (Vespula germanica) and a relative new-comer to our area the Median Wasp (Dolichovespula media) occasional dubbed ‘the Euro Wasp’ by the press.
When wasps are causing a nuisance or endangering human health, we may have to destroy a wasps’ nest.
Treating a wasp nest can be very dangerous. Wasps inside the nest will feel threatened and often become aggressive. We appreciate how distressing it can be to be near wasps or their nest. Fear of wasps is very real and can cause great apprehension in some people. A wasp sting is a painful experience, and although the insects do not transmit disease a sting from a wasp is a nasty and unpleasant experience, they can cause severe subsequent pain and also serious allergic reactions – in very rare cases a wasp sting can be life-threatening.
Unlike a bee, a wasp can sting numerous times in succession, which means they can be particularly unpleasant if caught in clothing.
It is for these reasons that a person ought to take prevention measures rather than wait for them to become a nuisance and start looking for ways to eradicate them. Do not wait until you are stung or get infected with strange diseases emanating from contaminated venom.
It’s Better to Work With a Local Pest Control Company
Although an insect spray will quickly kill any wasps you hit in flight, the sheer number of wasps per-nest means this is probably a waste of time.
You’ll see all sorts of DIY nest removal guides online. They’re all very dangerous and not recommended by us.
When wasps feel threatened they release a chemical to call for help. While being stung by one wasp isn’t normally dangerous, 30 or 40 stings could kill you.
DIY products can be effective for dealing with small nests in the early Spring, however they’re unlikely to help with a large, established nest. Professional pest controllers have access to professional use products.
Proper knowledge and equipment is a must: We have specialised clothing and equipment to ensure faster and more cardinal removal of the nests, as well as increased safety.
Training and expertise are everything: Even when you have the necessary equipment, there is still the risk for you to be stung. A more experienced professional already knows how to deal with the situation faster, no matter where the nest is located or how large it is.
NEVER attempt to deal with a wasps’ nest if you think you might be allergic to stings.
