As usual, we are all looking forward to and hoping for a good summer after a winter that seems to go on forever. But whilst the warm weather brings us out in droves so too it means that the incidence of wasps and wasp problems becomes an issue for some of us.

Here we give you some tips to ensure that you're able to enjoy the summer without the threat of being invaded by wasps either in the garden or worse still entering the home.

Wasps are more prevalent around July/August when wasp nests grow in size. The nests are found more often in sofats, lofts and trees but can be made where the wasp can gain entry to the smallest of holes around your home or business. When and if we are lucky enough to get some warm weather, we tend to get out in the garden having barbecues and generally eating al fresco. A number of points to help you in limiting the wasp activity;

  • Keep bin lids closed
  • Clean barbecues down after use
  • Clean away any foods but especially sweet foods and drinks – wasps are notoriously sweet toothed!

You may see wasps get more aggressive around late August early September which is when the Wasps are trying to replace the sweet substance no longer available from the nests. You may have seen in beer gardens, places like Alton Towers and other tourist hot spots, the use of Wasp Banes. This is a wasp attractant that usually hangs from trees and can be very effective at controlling wasps. If you need any more information on Wasp Banes possibly for your garden or business, then give us a call and we can give you advice.
