It's that time of year again. Many people will be or have already been into the loft to bring down the Christmas decorations. For many of us this is the only time that we get into the loft.  This annual 'visit' can unearth a discovery of 'visitors' - Rodent infestation to your home that you weren't aware of!

Christmas Mouse

The telltale sign of chewed bags should alert you to a rodent infestation within your home. For us pest professionals this is only the start of the investigation. When we inspect a loft space we are specifically looking for droppings which indicate a rodent infestation – yes I know that sounds gross but if you know a pest controller, you’ll know that’s what we become obsessed/preoccupied with. Seriously droppings can tell us a lot of information. We have to know what we are dealing with to be able to treat the pest problem effectively. Droppings tell us who or what is there, but the amount can tell us how much of a rodent infestation there is. Also, the condition and texture can tell us how long this has been in progress.

In one recent case, we were called to a home where it became apparent that there had been a previous rodent infestation in the form of a mouse infestation. However, the current problem was one of a brown rat infestation. In this case, it was a lone intruder which we were quickly able to eradicate effectively. However, the job can get very interesting (Well maybe not for the squeamish!) when the detective work unearths a major infestation which can take some time to get on top of and quite distressing for the homeowner.

So if you have unearthed anything in your loft that looks pest related, give us a call before ‘The Big Day’ because the problem ain’t going to go away.
